Selecting a Caterer
The food is an important part to a reception. So it’s important to shop around. When deciding on a
caterer there are some important questions you should ask.

  • How many weddings have you catered?
  • What kind of weddings have you catered?
  • What kind of food service options do you offer?
  • Do you have bar menus available?
  • For outdoor weddings do you have all the necessary equipment?
           Tents?
            Portable kitchens?

  • Do you have all necessary health permits?
  • Are you licensed to sell alcohol?
  • What is your ratio of servers to guests?
  • Can I taste different meal options?
  • Can you accommodate special diet requirements?
  • Can I provide my own alcohol?
  • Do you have a list of references?
  • How the fee is determines? Flat or per person?
  • Are the taxes, gratuity, cork fee, or cake cutting fee included in estimate?

Make sure to ask about a price escalation cause. This is most often done when the contract is
formed long in advance of an event. This allows the caterer to raises the price to accommodate rises in
ingredient costs.

Also make note of the when things are due (signed contract, deposit, final guest count, and
balance) and the last day you can cancel and get a full refund. Make sure everything is in
writing. This protects both you and the caterer.
